| Senior Warden Rob Thomas Awarded the Daniel Carter Beard Award |
|
On May 20th, 2011, Ansantawae Lodge held their first annual Scout Night. The evening included a presentation by Bro. Thomas Maxwell, RW Grand Junior Warden about the Connecticut Masonic Scouters Association and the connections between Masonry and Scouting. Several members of the CMSA were present, including WB Steven Elzholz, Master of Cosmopolitan Lodge #125 and Awards Chair for the CMSA, and Jonathan Glassman, a member of Cosmopolitan Lodge, and a District Director for the Connecticut Yankee Council, Boy Scouts of America, and Bro. Eliazib Rivera, also of Cosmpolitan Lodge. Scoutmaster Mark Krom of Troop 1 in Milford, spoke about why he continues to be involved with Scouting after 30 years, and told the brethren about some of the service projects that Troop 1 is involved in. After the presentations by RW Bro. Maxwell and Scoutmaster Krom, Worshipful Master Chris Buck called Senior Warden Rob Thomas to the East. Rob is an Eagle Scout, and a member of the CMSA, and was instrumental in putting the evening together. In recognition of Rob's dedication to Scouting and Masonry, WM Buck presented him with the Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Scouter Award, to the complete surprise of Bro. Rob. The Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Scouter Award is an honor due to the countless Freemasons who practice the ideals of Freemasonry and act as role models to the young men who are part of one of our nation's most outstanding youth organizations. The Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Award not only supports the Masonic relationship through the man who brought Scouting to America, but proclaims the integrity of the Freemason who is honored by receiving the award. It is administered by the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, and is named in honor of Daniel Carter Beard, a Freemason and the founder of the Boy Scouts of America. |
